In the ever-expanding realm of mobile data networks new threats from viruses are often emerging. New threats constantly break headlines in the news media when they emerge. Experts warn of the risks viruses pose to mobile subscribers; as mobile technology evolves so do the viruses that target them.

As mobile devices evolve into more powerful and capable machines, they can also be as susceptible to virus infection like the infections that hit desktop computers. Outbreaks that occur on mobile data networks can cause crippling loses to operators both financially and network performance. Viruses that have high infection rates can severely clog operator networks by taking up the available bandwidth in order to spread itself. Since virus writers try to target as many people as possible by exploiting vulnerabilities found in mobile devices, the threat assessment is very real and tangible to operators. It can cost operators serious sums of money to clean up the infections and deal with the customer relations fall-out of a massive infection. Sometimes mobile viruses utilizes a carrier’s existing service (like MMS) or use mobile device features such as bluetooth or Wi-FI.

Customers using wireless devices on a mobile data network probably have no idea their device has already been infected by a virus, and is transmitting itself through the mobile data network. Operators now have the solution to monitor each subscriber’s traffic flow for potential malicious traffic, and MSP for mobile security is the best solution on the market to tackle this growing challenge.
