Deep Session Inspection technology (DSI) is a technology developed to calculate KPIs and metrics linked to content spread over multiple sessions. To achieve this, the DSI engine parses each session's payload looking for relationships between two or more sessions.
In the example of a WAP page composed of 1 HTML file and 8 pictures, the engine will inspect the payload of the HTML file, parse through the HTML syntax, find all the external objects enclosed in it, and link them together to calculate special metrics & KPIs.

Thanks to this technology, it is now possible, according to this last example, to calculate the average access time to a WAP portal page (including the pictures) for all the subscribers in a given network. This average time will reflect the exact same amount of time the subscriber will actually wait before displaying the WAP page.
Right now, Theta Networks is the only company using Deep Session Inspection for mobile OSS.
